Rezumat
Campionatul Mondial de Tenis de Masă a avut loc anual începând cu 1926 și o dată la doi ani din 1957. La masculin, China deține cele mai multe trofee (21), fiind urmată de Ungaria (12), Japonia (7), Republica Cehă(6) și Suedia (5). La feminin, China domină ierarhia mondială, având 21 trofee, fiind urmată de Japonia (8), România (5) și Cehoslovacia (3). China a dominat și domină tenisul de masă, masculin și feminin, începând cu anii ’60. Suedia a avut rezultate notabile la masculin în anii ’70-’90. Japonia a excelat la masculin în anii ’50 și la feminin în anii ’50 și ’60. România a excelat la feminin în anii ’50. Cehoslovacia a avut rezultate remarcabile în anii ’30-’50 la masculin și în anii ’30 la feminin. Ungaria a deținut supremația la masculin în anii ’20 și ’30.
